Compiled by Israel Action Committee co-chair Ofri Felder
The New Israel Fund: www.nif.org New Israel Fund is the leading organization committed to equality and democracy for all Israelis. It is a broad based organization that supports dozens of grass roots organizations in Israel in the areas of human rights, women’s rights, environmental issues, religious pluralism, Israeli-Palestinian coexistence, etc.
The Jewish National Fund: www.jnf.org Founded by Herzl over a century ago, the Jewish National Fund has been an integral part of Zionist history: planting over 240 million trees, building more than 200 dams and reservoirs, developing more than 250,000 acres of land, and creating over 1,000 parks. The Fund’s current focus is developing the arid Negev, building water reservoirs to help Israel grapple with the worst draught in 80 years, and continuing efforts at afforestation. You can donate to particular initiatives, such as the Sderot Indoor Recreation Center, give a general donation, or purchase a certificate in memory of a loved one.
Magen David Adom: www.fomda.org Israel's national emergency medical, disaster, ambulance and blood bank service. Magen David Adom is the first responder for pre-hospital care in all emergencies, from accidents to terror attacks in Israel.
Yad Vashem: www.yadvashemusa.org Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority, was established by the Israel Knesset in 1953. It is entrusted with documenting the history of the Jewish people during the Holocaust period, preserving the memory and story of each of the six million victims, and imparting the legacy of the Holocaust to future generations. Located in Jerusalem, Yad Vashem is a vast, sprawling complex of tree-studded walkways leading to museums, exhibits, archives, monuments, sculptures, and memorials.
The Israel Museum in Jerusalem: www.english.imjnet.org.il/htmls/home
This amazing museum, established in 1965, is the largest cultural institution in Israel and is ranked among the world’s leading art and archeology museum. Its Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Jewish Art and Life Wings features the most extensive collections of biblical and Holy Land archeology. Among its many treasures are the Dead Sea Scrolls, housed in the “Shrine of the Book.” A recent renovation provides a spectacular setting for the museum’s archeology and Jewish Art and Life Collections. The immense success of the museum would not have been possible without the generous support of the Jewish community worldwide.
Peres Center for Peace: www.peres-center.org Located in Tel-Aviv Jaffa on the ocean front, the new Peres Center is continuing its ten-year old mission of furthering peace in the region by focusing on socio-economic cooperation and development, and people-to-people interaction.
